Margin note · ED margin

Every-morning 2.5 mg is not a Friday 10 mg in disguise

Last reviewed · 10 min read · Updated

A weekday 2.5 mg habit is what the Cialis once-daily ED section actually starts with. A 10 mg tablet before a planned night is the as-needed start. They are not two ways to say the same exposure.

This ink separates the clocks. The parent numbers live on the tadalafil leaf. Elise Moreau dated the margin 21 August 2026.

01 Two regimens, one bottle name

Every-morning 2.5 mg is not a Friday 10 mg in disguise. Once-daily Cialis for erectile dysfunction starts at 2.5 mg at approximately the same time every day, without regard to timing of sexual activity. As-needed Cialis starts at 10 mg prior to anticipated activity, once daily at most.

Switching from the morning habit to a weekend tablet, or the reverse, is a prescribing change. Residual tadalafil from daily use is still there on Friday. Adding 10 mg that night is an extra dose on a long half-life (17.5 hours).

The labelled daily rise is 5 mg if 2.5 mg is tolerated and thin. The labelled PRN rise is 20 mg if 10 mg is tolerated and thin. Those rises stay inside one regimen.

BPH-only and ED-plus-BPH daily dosing is 5 mg. If prostate symptoms are the real reason for a daily tablet, 2.5 mg may be the wrong daily strength. That is a visit, not this ink.

02 How a switch is written, not improvised

How a switch is written, not improvised: the clinician names a last daily date and a first PRN date, or the reverse. Because t½ is 17.5 hours, a Friday stop of 2.5 mg still leaves Saturday plasma. A Saturday 10 mg the next morning after a Friday 2.5 mg is still a stack unless the gap was planned.

Potent CYP3A4 inhibitors make the switch narrower. Daily ceiling 2.5 mg. PRN ceiling 10 mg every 72 hours. There is no 'weekend 20 mg' inside that pair.

Severe renal disease already rewrites PRN (5 mg every 72 hours on some rows) and may remove daily use. Do not keep a 2.5 mg bottle 'because it looks small' if creatinine has fallen.

The binding sheet that sets these clocks against sildenafil 50-100 mg is the Cialis versus Viagra page.

03 Inhibitors and creatinine pick the regimen before preference does

Inhibitors and creatinine pick the regimen before preference does. A potent CYP3A4 inhibitor with daily Cialis caps the tablet at 2.5 mg. The same inhibitor with PRN use caps 10 mg at every 72 hours. There is no labelled hybrid that keeps 2.5 mg Monday to Thursday and 10 mg Friday inside that pair.

Rifampin can shrink a 10 mg AUC by 88%. Daily 2.5 mg on rifampin can look like a blank habit. The insert does not invent a compensating Friday 10 mg.

Moderate renal impairment already rewrites PRN (5 mg start, 10 mg every 48 hours max). Severe disease or hemodialysis is 5 mg every 72 hours on some PRN rows, and daily use may drop off the chart. A 2.5 mg bottle 'because it looks small' is not a renal plan.

Age 65 and over had about 25% higher tadalafil AUC with no automatic milligram cut. The nitrate list still outranks age. Daily use means the 48-hour hold is continuous.

If the real complaint is a late heavy dinner on Fridays only, daily 2.5 mg is a lot of exposure for one night. PRN 10 mg, or sildenafil 50 mg with a managed plate, may fit that household better. That is a visit sentence, not a month of mixed bottles.

04 The thirty-count is the daily lock

The thirty-count is the daily lock on Virena's sourced band. A 10 mg PRN pack is another row. This ink does not quote a homemade hybrid price.

Kroger, Safeway, Harris Teeter, and Albertsons remain official pharmacy pages. Virena does not dispense either bottle. A thirty-count is a daily habit board, not a weekend 10 mg substitute you stretch across Fridays. If the thirty-count sits unused except on Fridays, the regimen is already broken and belongs in clinic as a PRN switch. Do not add Friday 10 mg on top of leftover weekday 2.5 mg. One clock per bottle. Elise dates the ink, not the switch.

Generic tadalafil 2.5 mg, thirty tablets, the Virena daily leaf lock, August 2026. GoodRx lists 2.5 mg x 30 at $313.08 average retail and $16.93 with a coupon. Ten-milligram PRN packs are a separate row on the same table. Virena does not dispense.

05 Who the 2.5 mg morning actually fits

Who the 2.5 mg morning actually fits: midweek attempts, no appetite for a countdown, and no wish to negotiate dinner. The tablet is taken because it is Wednesday. After several days the trough is less of a guess.

Who it does not fit: someone who wants a tablet in the house only for rare Fridays, or someone on a potent CYP3A4 inhibitor whose daily ceiling is already 2.5 mg and whose clinician may prefer PRN 10 mg every 72 hours instead.

Missed morning doses are not 'take two at 21:00.' Take the next tablet at the usual hour. Do not invent a 5 mg catch-up from two 2.5 mg tablets unless that was written.

Daily use means continuous plasma tadalafil when you evaluate other vasodilators, including alpha-blockers and any nitrate emergency. The 48-hour hold is always running while the habit runs.

06 A forgotten Tuesday dose is not a double Wednesday

A forgotten Tuesday dose is not a double Wednesday. Once-daily Cialis is approximately the same hour every day. If Tuesday 08:00 was missed and you remember at 21:00, the usual counsel is to skip the late swallow rather than stack 5 mg from two 2.5 mg tablets, unless the prescriber wrote a specific catch-up. Take Wednesday's tablet at the usual hour.

If missed mornings become the pattern, you no longer have the steady trough the daily design assumes. That pattern is a reason to switch to 10 mg PRN with the clinician, not a reason to add Friday 10 mg on top of occasional 2.5 mg days.

Travel across time zones is a same-hour problem. Pick a local hour and keep it. Do not take 2.5 mg at the old hour and again at the new hour on the same calendar day.

Daily use means the 48-hour nitrate hold is always running. There is no 'I skipped yesterday so a spray is fine tonight.' The last tablet time is still the hold start.

07 Who the 10 mg night actually fits

Who the 10 mg night actually fits: predictable evenings, a wish to stay off daily exposure, and a Saturday that may still need Sunday leftover. The two-evening 10 mg margin times that pair.

Who it does not fit: someone who refuses any lead and wants random weeknights without a tablet in the pocket. That person is the daily 2.5 mg candidate.

Food is irrelevant to the choice. Both clocks ignore meals for absorption. Alcohol is relevant to both. Five units plus either tablet can drop standing pressure.

If 10 mg nights are rare and 2.5 mg mornings feel like unused drug, say that in clinic. The answer is a regimen pick, not a half-and-half month you invent.

08 Alpha-blockers on a daily 2.5 mg habit

Alpha-blockers on a daily 2.5 mg habit need a stable alpha dose first. Tadalafil and doxazosin, tamsulosin, or alfuzosin are both vasodilators. The insert asks for caution and a low PDE5 start, which daily 2.5 mg already is. Adding 10 mg on Friday on top of that habit and an alpha-blocker is the stack this ink exists to stop.

Cialis as a single daily tablet is approved for BPH symptoms at 5 mg, and for ED plus BPH at 5 mg. The caution is the two-hypotensive combination, not 'tadalafil is forbidden in prostate disease.' If the visit was about stream and erections, 2.5 mg may be the wrong daily strength.

Alcohol still matters on the daily clock. Five units plus the morning tablet can drop standing pressure in the evening, when people assume the 2.5 mg is 'already gone.' Half-life 17.5 hours says it is not gone.

Adcirca is tadalafil for pulmonary arterial hypertension. Do not run Cialis daily beside it. Revatio plus daily tadalafil is the same class-stack error with a different INN.

Compare a food-delayed same-night alternative on the sildenafil 50-100 mg leaf if the real complaint is Friday dinner, not a wish for daily coverage.

09 Say 'daily' or 'as needed' in the first sentence of the visit

Say 'daily' or 'as needed' in the first sentence of the visit. Then the nitrate list. Then whether Sunday leftover matters. Elise Moreau reviewed this ink on 21 August 2026.

If a potent CYP3A4 inhibitor is running, daily use is already a 2.5 mg ceiling and PRN is 10 mg every 72 hours. Those two sentences decide the regimen faster than a preference for Fridays. Adcirca on the same list is a same-INN stack, not a second bottle. Missed Tuesday plus double Wednesday is also a stack. Keep the usual hour. Five units of alcohol still matter on the evening after a morning 2.5 mg because half-life is 17.5 hours.

Ink questions go to [email protected]. Not a switch request. Name daily or as-needed in the first sentence of the visit.

Desk thread

Blanquefort and Eysines readers asked whether 2.5 mg mornings replace a 10 mg Friday. They do not.

Tristan Blanquefort If I remember 2.5 mg only on weekdays, can I use 10 mg on Friday?

Desk reply

That is already a broken daily habit plus a PRN add-on. Once-daily 2.5 mg is meant to be approximately the same time every day, including Friday. Skipping Thursday and Friday then taking 10 mg is a homemade switch, not a labelled hybrid. If you only want weekends, stop the daily bottle with the prescriber and move to 10 mg PRN. If you want midweek, take 2.5 mg on Friday too and do not add 10 mg. The 17.5-hour half-life means Thursday's 2.5 mg is not gone by Friday night. Stacking is extra exposure and a messier nitrate hold.

Hélène Eysines My clinician mentioned prostate symptoms. Is 2.5 mg still the daily tablet?

Desk reply

Not if BPH is the indication. Cialis for BPH, and for ED plus BPH, is 5 mg once daily at the same time. The 2.5 mg start is the ED-only daily row. Do not stay on 2.5 mg to 'be safer' if the visit was about stream and erections together, and do not add an alpha-blocker on your own because 2.5 mg felt weak on urinary symptoms. The caution with alpha-blockers is the two-hypotensive stack, not a ban on tadalafil in prostate disease. Bring both symptom lists to the visit that picks 2.5 versus 5 versus PRN 10.

Mehdi Villenave-d'Ornon I already take tadalafil for lung pressure. Can I add 2.5 mg Cialis in the morning?

Desk reply

No. Adcirca is tadalafil. Adding Cialis is the same INN twice. PAH dosing is a different clock and a different product. The Cialis label warns against combining with other PDE5 inhibitors. Tell every ED visit the PAH tablet name and milligrams before anyone writes 2.5 mg or 10 mg. This ink will not invent a safe add-on. If erections are the new complaint on PAH tadalafil, that is the PAH prescriber's problem, not a second bottle from a weekend clinic. Nitrates remain contraindicated on either product.

Capucine Ambarès-et-Lagrave I fly east and the morning hour moves. Do I take 2.5 mg twice that calendar day?

Desk reply

No. Once daily is once daily. Pick a new local hour and keep it. Swallowing at the old hour and again at the new hour is two tablets. The daily design wants approximately the same time every day, not a catch-up pair. If the flight day is a mess, skip rather than double, then resume the new hour. The nitrate hold from the last tablet still runs 48 hours. A long-haul night plus five units plus the morning tablet is the alcohol line, not a reason to add 10 mg because the hotel evening 'counts as weekend.' If travel is rare and you only want those nights, that is a PRN 10 mg conversation, not a broken daily habit.

Yoann Créon How many days after stopping 2.5 mg can I take a 10 mg night tablet?

Desk reply

The insert does not print a washout day count for that switch. Half-life 17.5 hours means several days of declining plasma, and the nitrate hold from the last daily tablet is still 48 hours at minimum. A clinician who knows why you are switching should name the first PRN date. Do not pick the morning after the last 2.5 mg as an obvious 10 mg night. Mail to [email protected] will not date your first PRN swallow. The 48-hour nitrate hold from the last 2.5 mg still applies while plasma declines. A Friday stop plus Saturday 10 mg is still a stack unless the gap was named. Age 65 and a 25% higher AUC do not invent the missing day count. If Adcirca is already on the list, there is no 2.5 mg add-on and no 10 mg weekend tablet. Same INN. Tell the PAH prescriber first. Travel days still count as once daily: pick a local hour, do not double. The 48-hour nitrate hold does not pause because you skipped a morning.
